Artist Description/Story

Zden_k Netopil (* June 20, 1948, _anov, Czech Rep.) is a Czech painter, illustrator, graphic artist, typographer, actor and mime.

In the years 1963-1967, Zden_k Netopil studied applied graphics at the Secondary School of Applied Arts (School of Arts and Crafts) in Brno. Then he worked until 1973 at the State Theater in Brno as an advertising painter and at the same time was an actor and mime in the Brno theater Goose on a String. Subsequently, in 1973-1979, he studied promotional graphics at the University of Applied Arts in Prague under the guidance of Professor Ev_en Weidlich.

He has been engaged in painting, graphics, typography, calligraphy and book and magazine illustration, since 1979 as a freelancer. In 1996, he designed his first postage stamp with the Czech chess player V_ra Men_�kov�, world chess champion in the years 1927-1939. Since then, he has created a total of thirteen Czech postage stamps, mostly with a sports theme. He presented his work at a number of joint and author exhibitions at home and abroad, and his works are represented in a number of foreign galleries, e.g. the Gallery of European Art in Hawaii, and in private collections
